Kalpavriksha

These trees certainly don’t need any introduction.

Coconut trees are one of the most productive trees. Every part of this tree is useful in one way or the other. From leaf to it’s dried shell, everything is used in making baskets, sheds to wooden utensils and coir.

Coconut known for its versatility, is used in food to cosmetics and also has religious significance in Hindu rituals.

Coconut trees usually thrive in places where there are sandy soils and abundant rainfall.

This picture was clicked on the way to a beach during a recent visit to Udupi, Karnataka. Coconut trees are found in abundance here.

In Sanskrit, this tree is known as Kalpavriksha – a tree that provides all necessities of life.

  1. Kalpavriksha and so true for coconut tree. As a kid I used to draw them without ever having seen them and then I moved to Bangalore. I love coconut trees and coconut too 🙂 Thank you for joining with this lovely entry. This one feels like home 🙂
