Monumental Idol

Birla Ganpati, also known as Mangal Murti Morya temple is situated at Shirgaon which is some 25km from Pune.

This Ganpati idol is huge and one can see the idol from the adjoining national highway NH4 near Somatane Toll plaza.

There is ample parking space below the entrance. One has to climb around 180 steps to reach the top. However, one can enjoy the green landscape and gorgeous flowers while climbing the steps.So one does not feel tired after climbing the steps. Provisional sittings are done between stairs so that people can sit if they are tired.

The idol is 54 feet high, placed on 18 foot pedestal which is 45 feet wide. It was written there that these dimensions were planned so that the total of these numbers will be 9 which is considered as auspicious number.

The metallic finish of the idol looks great and sun-rays bouncing off the idol along with surrounding greenery creates a scenic view.

As the idol is huge, precautions are taken so that idol is well lit at night to avoid any accidents.

Tourists can visit this temple throughout the year. There is no entry fee and timings for visiting is temple is from 5am to 10.30pm.
